A 35 minute drive from the Chalet, just southeast of Mammoth Lakes, you can find a wide variety of hot mineral springs that have been corralled into rock tubs. The springs are everything but commercial and require a bit of perseverance to find, but the experience is well worth the effort. Be sure to be be considerate with your presence and give a thank you if you happen to run into the volunteers that maintain them.
If you are a bonafide hot spring connoisseur then you won’t mind the 50-minute drive to clothing-optional Travertine Hot Springs, just south of Bridgeport. Just like the springs mentioned above, stunning mountain views abound. To get there, head up highway 395. A half mile south of Bridgeport, left at Jack Sawyer Road, just before the Ranger Station, and head one mile down a dirt road.
