The Eastern Sierra is one of the world’s top destinations for the outdoor enthusiast. And within the Eastern Sierra, Mono County, where June Lake is located, is the crown jewel. In fact, in 2013 Lonely Planet gave Mono County the title of one of the “Top 10 U.S. Destinations in 2013.”
Whether you are looking for world class rock climbing, fly fishing, snowmobiling, ice climbing, horseback riding, skiing or snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain or June Mountain, or natural wonders, the Yosemite Gateway Chalet makes an ideal base.
For backcountry skiers, you will find some of the best descents in North America, a few of which let out at the back door of the Yosemite Gateway Chalet.
In the spring, summer and fall, walk out the back door of the chalet and wander past serene lakes and gushing streams en route to summit dramatic Carson Peak. On the note of streams, even though fishing season in the June Lake ends in the late fall, excellent year-round fishing can be found an hour’s drive away (in Bishop).
And, if you are more keen to take in sites than push the limits with alpine activities, Mono Lake, Bodie ghost town and Devils Postpile are terrific options.
